HIGH NOON SHOOTOUT
How it works...
Nevada stations will be on the air for eight hours September 8, 2012 from 16:00 UTC until 24:00 UTC
(9 AM until 5 PM PDT Nevada local time).
The objective is to "plug" as many Nevada stations possible in a two hour period.
Non-Nevada stations start gunning as the clock strikes noon at their location. You may blast away at Nevada stations for the next two hours but must cease fire at 2:00 PM your local time.
The North American time zones and their corresponding Nevada operating periods are:
Atlantic Standard Time 16:00 UTC = 9:00 - 11:00 AM Nevada
Eastern Daylight Time 16:00 UTC = 9:00 - 11:00 AM Nevada
Central Daylight Time 17:00 UTC = 10:00 AM - 12:00 noon Nevada
Mountain Daylight Time 18:00 UTC = 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM Nevada
Pacific Daylight Time 19:00 UTC = 12:00 noon -2:00 PM Nevada
Alaskan Daylight Time 20:00 UTC = 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM Nevada
Hawaii-Aleutian Standard Time 22:00 UTC = 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM Nevada
The United States territories of Puerto Rico, U.S.Virgin Islands, and most areas of the Canadian Maritime Provinces located in the Atlantic Time zone do not observe Daylight Savings Time and therefore their time corresponds with Eastern Daylight Time. All Canadian stations located in the Atlantic Time Zone will operate from 16:00 UTC until 18:00 UTC regardless as to whether or not they observe Daylight Time.
DX STATIONS
The purpose of this contest is to provide a fast paced contest platform for stations to make QSO's with Nevada. To this end the contest is limited to eight hours for Nevada stations and two hours for non-Nevada stations.
DX stations are also limited to a single two hour operating period. DX stations are given the luxury of picking which two hour operating window they wish to join. As DX stations will compete only against other DX stations no un-fair advantage exists. Each DX station will use their knowledge of propagation to pick their favorite two hour period.
A DX stations operating period begins at the top of the hour in which their first QSO is made. For example a DX station makes its first contact at 17:17 UTC, their contest starting point is 17:00 UTC (10:00 AM Nevada time) and they may now operate until 19:00 UTC (12:00 noon Nevada time).
TIME ZONE VIOLATIONS
Non-Nevada stations have the responsibility of knowing when it is noon at their location and when their 2:00 PM "cease fire" is. Only QSO's made during this time count for score credit. However the goal of this event is to foster contacts between Nevada stations and non-Nevada stations. This event offers County Hunters, Paper Chasers, QSL card collectors and others an opportunity to meet their goals.
Contacts by non-Nevada stations outside their contest window will not count toward their score. But no further penalty will be assessed. Nevada stations may log for credit all out of state QSO's made during the eight hour contest period.
EXCHANGE
Nevada stations send sequential serial number and 3-letter county abbreviation.
